Elementary School: World Day of the Book

Dear Parents of the Elementary School (SEL through Grade 4),

The World Day of the Book will be celebrated at the Elementary School on Thursday, April 21, 2016. The event is financially supported by the Friends of the German School. We have invited the author Mary Amato who will be reading excerpts from one of her books and sign it afterwards. The first one “Missing Monkey!” in the series “Good Crooks” is one of her most popular stories.

This will be our thirteenth celebration of the World Day of the Book in the Elementary School. We have chosen a popular theme again for our event this year that will excite all of our students. If you are interested in buying a copy of one of her books and have the author  sign it at the event, please purchase one through the many venues available and have your child bring it to school that day.

We would also like to tell you about our annual book fair in connection with the World Day of the Book Surplus and no-longer needed children’s books from the library will be sold during this event. Please give your child small change to purchase some of those books which are priced $ 0.10, $ 0.25 and $ 0.50. Every year, this is one of the highlights of the fair, since children have otherwise only few opportunities to buy something independently here in the Washington environment.

We will remind you shortly before the upcoming event via Wednesday Mail so that you can make sure your child brings one of the books in case you will be purchasing a copy for your child before the event.

We are all looking forward to Mary Amato’s visit.

Ingrid Wrausmann and Ursula Eberhard
