The Christmas Market of the FRIENDS of the German International School Washington D.C. will take place on Saturday, December 1, 2018, from 10 am to 5 pm.
Attention: This year you don’t have the possibility to preorder any Advent wreaths. This year Advent wreaths can be purchased only at the Christmas market (on Saturday, December 1, 2018).
Dear Parents, dear School Community,
It has become a holiday tradition at the GISW for the FRIENDS of the German International School and parent volunteers to create handmade Advent wreaths for the Christmas Market annual school fundraiser. The Advent wreaths, made of garlands of evergreen branches and lovingly bound and adorned with beautiful Christmas decorations, are assembled in the week after Thanksgiving from Monday, November the 26th to Friday, November 30th. Volunteers meet during normal school hours (from 8:15am to 3pm) in the back of GISW's cafeteria, to create one-of-kind wreaths which are then sold at the Christmas Market on Saturday, December 1st, 2018. Year after year enthusiastic members of the school community eagerly anticipate these very popular Advent wreaths. During the week after Thanksgiving, the scent of the fresh evergreen branches wafts through the air and lets everyone know that the holiday season is here. Each year volunteers and helpers happily work to bring about the success of this wonderful project, and, depending on availability, spend a few hours or several days supporting this creative and rewarding project. The FRIENDS are grateful for all your help in raising money to support the students of the GISW.
No prior knowledge is required! There is no obligation to be there every day or stay all the time, but it would be nice if you are indeed available for a few hours to ensure the success of this project.
The organization team of the FRIENDS (Uschi Stocker, Barbara Neuhoff, Kerstin Oltmanns) will be there to provide a helping hand with the materials and guide you as needed as you make the wreaths. Please wear comfortable clothing (if you have an apron, that would be helpful). If you like, you can bring gardening gloves from home, and if you bring your own garden shears or scissors, that would be very helpful. We have stations for each part of the process, and you can volunteer for whichever activity suits your interest, time and availability: cutting branches, binding, and decorating the wreaths.
Coffee, tea and other beverages, as well as snacks, are provided. For lunch, the volunteers are invited for a complimentary meal in the cafeteria.
You will be amazed at how working together with other school community members on this project heralds the beginning of the pre-Christmas Advent season. Most importantly, all proceeds from the sale of the Advent wreaths directly benefit the students of our school by supporting various projects throughout the school year!
Please support us and join the Advent wreath workspace in the week after Thanksgiving. You may sign up here: ADVENTSWREATHS
Thank you for your support!
