Last week, the English Department of the Elementary School, Mrs. Monnett, Mrs. Kroeker, and Mrs. Hoover, took the 4th graders on a field trip to see “Meeting Mr. Lincoln” at the Discovery Theater in Washington D.C.
The play portrays two young people who want to ask President Lincoln some questions and who then turn to the audience to ask for help. The audience helps them figure out what to ask, and in fact everyone gets to talk to the president. As the program so aptly states: “This is an interactive play about identity, equality, and following big dreams.”
The students enjoyed the play. One student remarked on the ride home: ”You know Mrs. Monnett, President Lincoln was so authentic; exactly how I had always imagined he would look and sound like”. I completely agree.
