Optime nobis evenit!
Latin students of the GISW received 6 gold medals, 4 silver medals and many other awards at this year’s National Latin Exam (NLE)
On March 11, 2020, shortly before the closure of the school, our Latin students from grades 7 – 12 participated for the fourth time at the National Latin Exam. The NLE is organized by the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League; its philosophy is predicated on providing every Latin student the opportunity to experience a sense of personal accomplishment and success in his study of the Latin language and culture. Students participate at different levels, depending on their grade and level of progress; an additional challenge for our students lies in the fact that the NLE is administered in English, whereas the language of instruction in all Latin classes at the GISW is predominantly German.
Although this year’s conditions, with a high number of parallel exams and the approaching coronavirus, were probably more challenging than in previous years, our students have performed extraordinarily well and set a new record in medals awarded (measured in relation to the overall number of participants). We are therefore especially proud to announce our winners at this year’s National Latin Exam:
