SAVE THE DATE - Preschool (KiGa) Bike-a-thon Fundraiser Event at the German International School Washington D.C. followed by Germany vs. Hungary Soccer Match Watch Party

Our preschoolers would like to invite you to join them and their friends on Wednesday, June 19th from 9:30 – 11:30 am as they ride their bicycles, scooters, tricycle, strider bikes, etc. around the school parking lot to raise money for preschool programming as part of the GISW Annual Giving Campaign.  GISW & GLC children (as well as their friends) preschoolers through fourth-graders are welcome to participate in this bike-a-thon fundraiser.  Each child will find their own sponsors (family, neighbors, and friends) to support their participation with flat donations or per lap contributions.  100% of donations will go to the preschool and all contributions are potentially tax deductible.

Immediately following the bike-a-thon (12pm), we will be hosting a Germany vs. Hungary Soccer Match Watch Party in our school auditorium.  Come and cheer on your favorite team while enjoying free pizza and drinks with your friends.

Why Support this Event?

Our kids are hoping to raise a total of $20,000 during two hours of frenzied fun and are asking for your help.  All money raised during the bike-a-thon will go towards special Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) and Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) programming in the Preschool.  See below for more information about what your support will enable:

  • Eric Energy Interactive Kids Science Shows - Introducing science in our preschool and foster curiosity, exploration, and foundational understanding of the world in which we live. Exposure to scientific concepts through entertaining shows and interactive opportunities to promote critical thinking and problem-solving as well as laying a strong foundation for future learning in STEM fields.
  • Artists at Wolf Trap Sessions – Celebrating diversity in our preschool through the enchanting world of music. Talented musicians from diverse backgrounds will come to share their unique cultural heritage with our children through musical performances and story-telling as well as exposure to a rich array of musical instruments sourced from various cultures worldwide.

Please consider supporting this important school fundraiser in one or more of the following ways:

  • Sponsoring one or more of our young riders participating in the bike-a-thon when they reach out to you between now and June 19th (you can make a per lap or overall contribution pledge)
  • Making an online donation to the school’s campaign now and allocating your gift to either the STEM/MINT Fund or the DEIB Fund (or both) – please be sure to add “KiGa Bike-a-thon Fundraiser” in the notes field when making your donation online
  • Attending the bike-a-thon to cheer for the kids and/or coming to watch the Germany vs. Hungary Soccer Match while enjoying pizza and drinks with your friends following the bike-a-thon.
  • Volunteering to help with cone set-up, managing “traffic flows”, or distributing snacks at the bike-a-thon (you can still participate in the bike-thon with your kids if you volunteer). Please e-mail Laura Black at astarte@ieee.org if you can spare some time to help!
