STEM/MINT Program at GISW

Our STEM/MINT program gives students the opportunity to specialize in rigorous mathematics and science curricula focused on problem-solving and research. Our emphasis is on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) alongside the German equivalent; Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften und Technik (MINT).

In the year 2018 our school achieved the MINT certification, awarded by Germany’s nationwide program, “MINT: creating the future.“ This initiative is sponsored by the Conference of Ministers of Education and supported by some of Germany’s best known corporations.

Through collaboration among teachers in the Preschool (starting at age 2), Elementary School (School Entry Level through 4th grade) and Upper School (5th through 12th grade), students are engaged, encouraged and challenged at an early age, in order to stimulate a sustained interest in the sciences.

Important aspects of our STEM/MINT Program include:

  • Excitement and enjoyment in exploring scientific topics
  • Independent research, problem-solving, analysis and laboratory investigations
  • Participation in local, national and international competitions
  • Cultivation of partnerships in higher-education, business & industry, and the community
  • Preparation of students – especially girls, for careers in science and technology

Our school’s substantial investment is represented by its modern Science building where students from 4th to 12th grade receive topflight education in state-of-the-art facilities specially designed for teaching the Sciences.  Our students receive high-level instructions in four well equipped scientific laboratories. Laptops, interactive SMART-Boards and document cameras, lego mindstorm-robots, 3-D-printers, a weather bug station and notebooks for simulations, measurements and data analysis comprise some of the resources accessible to students and teachers. These enhance the academic curriculum by providing students with unique learning experiences that build on their individual capacities. Moreover, students are offered opportunities for independent research and experimentation, interacting with professionals from the scientific, engineering, technological and industrial communities.

 

Our success-driven curriculum and teaching methods stimulate curiosity and promote critical thinking, innovation and collaboration with peers in order to develop the intellectual, emotional and social skills required for life and work in a globalized world.
