Due to Zoning regulations established by the Montgomery County Board of Appeals, drop-offs and pick-ups of students directly at the German International School Washington D.C. (GISW) are not allowed on Saturday mornings.
Please don´t drive up to the GISW or park on Chateau Drive for drop-off or pick-up.
The GLC provides a convenient, free of charge solution with a Shuttle Bus Service from the nearby Bolger Center, Lot 5 at 9600 Newbridge Dr., Potomac, MD 20854 to the GISW and back.
In the morning: Four school busses shuttle between Bolger Center and GISW. The first bus leaves at 8:40 am, after classes the first bus leaves GISW at 11:40 am and busses circle between GISW and Bolger Center.
Chaperones: In the morning the first four busses will have a chaperone on board to accompany students up to 4th grade to school and into classes. At end of class chaperones will pick up students in class, bring them back to the dedicated bus and accompany them to the Bolger Center. All accompanied students will arrive at the Bolger Center in Bus 1.
Students who have not been picked up at the Bolger Center by 12:00 pm will be returned to the GLC office. Parents will then be notified.
PLEASE NOTE:
For everyone, students as well as accompanying parents/guardians without a valid parking pass, the Shuttle Bus is the default option!

To park on the school parking lots, a valid parking pass is required.
Drop-off or pick up by cars (with or without a valid parking pass), not remaining/parking on school grounds during class with a valid parking pass, can not be permitted.
With a valid parking pass your car needs to be parked at GISW for the duration of classes on any available parking spot on campus.

The purpose of the following 'Parking and Traffic Rules' is to enable the safe use of, and considerate behavior on the parking lot and within the neighborhood. Since we are located in a residential area, it is particularly important for our school to maintain good relationships with our neighbors.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
:: All drop-off and pick-up must take place at the dedicated parking lot #2 at the Bolger Center, 9600 Newbridge Dr., Potomac, MD 20854.
:: Students will be transported to and from the school by shuttle busses.
:: Drop-off and pick-up of students at the school, on Chateau Drive, and on Kentsdale Drive is NOT ALLOWED.
Use of the Parking Lot
:: The use of the parking lot is restricted to teachers, employees, students, and their drivers with a valid parking pass WHO STAY ON SITE DURING CLASS.
:: The instructions of supervision and administrative staff must be followed.
Drivers' Guide and Vehicle Registration
:: These 'Parking and Traffic Rules' that serve as a Drivers' Guide have to be obeyed by all students, their drivers, and employees of the German Language Courses at the German International School Washington D.C.
:: All students, drivers, and employees who sign-up for a parking pass are required to provide their license plates during the registration process.
Applicable Traffic Law
:: Maryland Traffic Laws apply on school property.
Driving Behavior/Parking Restriction on Chateau Drive
:: The speed limit of 25mph on Chateau Drive must be respected. Out of respect for the neighbors, a speed of 20mph is suggested.
:: Drive on the right lane only. Do not move onto the left lane when turning right into the parking lot.
:: Do not drive with open windows while listening to high-volume music.
:: Do not park on Chateau Drive and/or the neighbor's lawns.
:: For school events, the designated overflow parking must be used.
:: Come to a full stop before leaving the parking lot.
Driving and Parking on School Property
:: The parking lot speed limit of 10mph must be respected.
:: One-way circulation must be respected.
:: No parking along the yellow curbs (fire lanes, vehicles will be towed).
:: Do not obstruct parking spaces to allow others to pull in and out.
:: Vehicles may only be left unattended when properly parked in a marked parking space.
:: Vehicles transporting children less than 10 years of age are asked to use the elementary school parking lot where all parking spaces have direct access to walkways.
:: ONLY vehicles with a valid parking pass visibly placed behind the windshield shall be parked on the school parking lots.
Pedestrian Behavior on the Parking Lot
:: Use the shortest possible path to the pedestrian walkway after parking the vehicle.
:: Students may only be in the parking lot to get in and out of vehicles.
Commitment to Respect Rules
:: All students, drivers, and employees of the GLC commit to respect the parking and traffic rules.
:: Infractions against the Parking and Traffic Rules lead to the following consequences:

At the time of registration, you will be asked to apply for a parking pass (one/family) or to sign-up for the shuttle bus service which is free of charge. There is only a limited number of parking spaces/passes available which are issued on a 'first-come-first-serve basis'.
For everyone who has not signed up for the shuttle Bus Service or obtained a parking pass, the Shuttle Bus Service is the DEFAULT OPTION. Due to current circumstances, students and their accompanying parents (only one/family please) will be assigned to a specific bus, #1, 2, 3, or 4. Please make sure to take the same bus to and from the school.
