Water Main Break / Wasserrohrbruch

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2025

Our school has experienced water damage due to a water main break in the neighborhood. Preschool, SEL, and grades 5–12 are operating as usual.

IMPORTANT: The elementary school building is currently being restored to a usable condition; therefore, we are unfortunately unable to offer regular classes or supervision for grades 1–4.

Please keep your children in grades 1 to 4 at home on Friday, December 5.

The Newbees canceled the Newbees Breakfast.

We are closely monitoring the MCPS decision for Friday in case they announce a delayed start due to the weather.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Preschool Library

Welcome to the Preschool Library!
Your Child’s Gateway to Imagination and Learning
Located on the Second Floor of the Main Building

We’re delighted to introduce you to the Preschool Library at the German International School Washington D.C.—a cozy, newly renovated space filled with stories, music, and educational materials designed especially for our youngest learners. This is a place where curiosity blossoms and the German language comes to life through books and engaging activities.

Our dedicated library curators, Ms. Michaela Cobb, German Language Enrichment Teacher, and Mr. Demetrius Dubrey, Afternoon/Extended Care Educator, are here to support your child’s journey and help with any library needs.

Library Resources

The Preschool Library offers a wide selection of:

• Books – Engaging picture books and colorful tales that spark imagination and curiosity.

• Music – Joyful songs and playful rhythms that get little bodies moving and minds learning.

• Story CDs – Captivating audio adventures that bring stories to life through expressive narration.

• New digital materials – Interactive multimedia resources that make learning fun and hands-on.

—all designed to enrich your child’s experience and encourage a love of language and literacy.

Library Visits

Each Tuesday morning, the children have the opportunity to visit the library with their dedicated teachers and enjoy its offerings. Additionally, every other week, each classroom has a scheduled library day to provide extra time for children to explore and engage with our collection.

To make borrowing easy, each child receives a library bag with their name tag. Please send the bag back with any borrowed items on the next library day.

Important Reminders

  • Please return all borrowed materials on the scheduled library day so your child can continue borrowing new items during their next visit.
  • Library visit dates are clearly marked on the monthly classroom calendar
  • Any materials lost or not returned by the end of the school year will need to be replaced or paid for.

A gentle reminder from our library materials:
Please treat us with care so we can continue to support learning and enjoyment for many preschoolers to come.”

German Book Donations Welcome!

We happily accept gently used German book donations for ages 3–5. Your contributions help us grow our library and provide even more joyful reading experiences for all our little learners. Thank you for your support!
