The Upper School Library of the German International School Washington D.C. serves students of the 5th through 12th grades, teachers, staff, parents and families of the German School Society. We are also open Saturday mornings for the use of the German Language Courses (GLC).
The purpose of the library is not only to offer access to traditional and modern sources of information to its users, but also to support the advancement of efficient research strategies. Visitors of the library find individual assistance as well as various sources of information useful for personal enrichment and for leisure activities.
Our collection consists of approximately 20,000 books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs and CDs in German, English, Spanish, French and Latin. It includes everything from the most current German literature for our students, through the classics thanks in part to a generous donation from Herta and Hugo Müller in 2005. We also have a wide range of reference and non-fiction materials for students to use for their research projects.
During the regular opening hours, the library can be used by all members of the German School Society and GISW employees.
Up to three books may be checked out at a time for a period of three weeks. DVDs and CDs may be checked out for a period of one week.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. The library can be reached at librarygy@giswashington.org or 301.767.3828.
