Sport + Tradition = 5K Oktoberfest Run

On Saturday, September 28, 2013 the German School Washington D.C. and the German Language Courses (GLC) hosted their annual 5K Oktoberfest Run & Fun Run in Potomac, MD. A total of 444 runners participated in the race. The festivities kicked off with a 5K run for adults and were followed by a 1K fun run for children. Post-race activities for the whole family were offered during a traditional Oktoberfest with German food, kids’ games and language labs. Highlights included performances by the “Bairisch and Steierisch Dancers” and a silent auction.

“Our goal was to provide our guests with an authentic German experience while generating the funds for the enhancement of our sport facilities. Thanks to our community’s commitment and support, we were able to raise over $16.000”, said Head of School Waldemar Gries. “This event was a fun way to bring our American and German friends closer together”, he added.
