Our school has experienced water damage due to a water main break in the neighborhood. Preschool, SEL, and grades 5–12 are operating as usual.
IMPORTANT: The elementary school building is currently being restored to a usable condition; therefore, we are unfortunately unable to offer regular classes or supervision for grades 1–4.
Please keep your children in grades 1 to 4 at home on Friday, December 5.
The Newbees canceled the Newbees Breakfast.
We are closely monitoring the MCPS decision for Friday in case they announce a delayed start due to the weather.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

Christmas lights entangled in reindeer-antlers, a Tannenbaum rides home on the roof of a Volkswagen beetle, Santa Claus in red pastel colors, and the celebration of the German- American friendship with best multilingual wishes! After all, we are international!
Those were some of the beautiful Season Greeting Cards painted by the students who participated in this year’s Student Art Competition, organized by the FRIENDS with the support of Mrs. Cheshire and the Art Department of the GISW. With this contest, the Friends wanted to promote children’s creativity and encourage their participation in our Christmas Market. GISW students of all grades were invited to submit their artwork, which were then reviewed by an independent jury. Many thanks to the volunteers who helped us organize this event and congratulations to our eight winners: Franziska K (4th G); Josephine K.(6th G); Lina O(7th G); Roxanna A.(7th G); Bettina M-T (9th G); Nikita O. (9th G.); Pia E. (10th G); and Valerie K (12th G).
The 2020 Christmas Market at the GISW was quite special, and our children’s cards were a joyful reminder that, despite the many challenges we all faced this year, there are still many nice things to look forward to! After all, if we cannot travel ourselves, we can always send a card from our GISW kids to wish family and friends: “Guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr 2021!”
