> REMEMBERING THOSE WE LOVED AND LOST IN THE LAST DECADE

The 60th anniversary of the German International School Washington D.C. offers a moment to reflect on the meaning of education and to remember those individuals who have made a difference in the lives of so many. Therefore, we want to honor those members of the GISW community who have passed away in the last ten years (2011-2021). Should you wish to add such a tribute for a classmate, friend, teacher, staff member, or beloved family member, please reach out to Dr. Peter Dreher (dreher1776@gmail.com).  All tributes will be posted under "In Memoriam" in the upcoming "Our Community" section of the 60th Anniversary Website.

CALL FOR ARTICLES BY GISW COMMUNITY MEMBERS – 60th ANNIVERSARY
In celebration of our school’s 60th birthday we are creating a “Digital Festschrift”.  Dr. Peter Dreher, retired GISW English teacher and former Department Chair, has kindly volunteered to collect and post articles on the newly launched GISW 60th Anniversary section on our GISW-Website. We are looking for current and former GISW students, parents, teachers, staff, board members and friends who might have time to write and send Dr. Dreher a short article (250-1000 words) to help us celebrate our anniversary.

The smallest things may have had a lasting impression on you: Learning to write with a fountain pen ("Füller"); carrying your German school bag (“Schulranzen”) or pencil case (“Mäppchen”); getting your “Schultüte” in first grade; or participating in an “Abistreich.” Perhaps there was a memorable class project, a field trip, a German School tradition, or a teacher whom you liked. You might mention how a science project, a musical performance, a video project, a poetry AG, or a theater production had a lasting impact on you.  Perhaps you might say something about the influence your GISW education had on your current job, hobby, or volunteer work. And you might want to include a photograph. Please share as much or as little as you like.  Please reach out to Dr. Dreher at dreher1776@gmail.com to let him know if you can write an article by September 10th. Questions regarding this appeal may be directed to Dr. Dreher.  Article submissions can be made directly using the following google form.
