Member of the German Parliament and Government Coordinator of Transatlantic Cooperation, Harald Leibrecht, visited the DSW on Wednesday, September 19, 2013, as part of the school’s lecture series for grades 9 – 12. Before meeting with representatives of the school administration, the business office and the German Language Courses, Mr. Leibrecht took part in a question-and-answer session with students. In particular, they discussed the role of the DSW and the GLC in the intercultural relations between the U.S. and Germany.
In the following week on Friday, September 27, 2013 a high-ranking representative of the German Federal States, Saxon Minister of State for Culture and Sport Brunhild Kurth, visited the DSW. Ms. Kurth participated in classes at the Elementary and Upper Schools and was impressed by our students’ performance. While touring our Elementary School, students surprised the Minister by singing the German national anthem. Ms. Kurth later joined talks with the previously mentioned participants as well as Mr. Molitor, Head of the Board of Directors. Ms. Kurth in her function as the Cultural Minister of a Federal State significantly supports the German Schools abroad. She was highly pleased with the great work of the DSW and acknowledged the general importance of the German Schools abroad.
