GISW students in the afternoon program course ‚Science for Experts‘ under the valuable and deeply appreciated guidance of Dr. Derrick Lampkin and Tyler Boyle have worked for the past months on a box and more importantly on its content for the exciting ‚Weather Balloon Project‘. Only a few small steps separate us from starting our first box into which we are assembling 3 sensors and a GoPro camera. With the camera of course we are hoping to take most spectacular pictures, and with the sensors we are measuring temperature, air pressure, and the level of air moisture in high altitudes. With an Arduino and a Raspberry Pi the data will be stored and analyzed. Towards this goal we have been conducting research, programming, discussions, and the assembly.
The very last series of tests are now completed.
We are planning to start the weather balloon along with our box early in the morning of May 5th, 2018. Time and location depend on the weather and we expect to be informed on May 3rd.
Everyone interested in joining us for this event, please contact me by email (skneiske@giswashington.org). As soon as I know the time and location, I will forward it to those interested.
And now cross your fingers for a successful conclusion of this heavenly project.
